What is Kennel Cough?
Kennel Cough or Tracheobronchitis is infectious airborne virus.  It is most commonly
assoicated with dogs that have been recently kenneled.  Dogs get infected when they are
kept in a crowded situation with poor air circulation but lots of warm air.  Although kennel
cough is most commonly picked up in a kennel situation, it can be picked up elsewhere.

Symptoms
It is associated with a hacking type cough.  Most clients will describe the dog as "having
something stuck in it's throat".
The incubation period is usuallly about 2 to 14 days.

Treatment
Kennel Cough can be treated symptomatically with the aid of antibiotics and cough
suppressant if necessary.

Prevention
Vaccinating against kennel cough is the best way to avoid the infection.  The vaccination
comes in 2 forms: Nasal or Injectable.  It is important though to plan ahead and come in at
least 3 days prior to going to the kennel.  This will give the vaccine the proper time and
chance to be more effective.  The vaccine is good for 6 months.
